This assignment was important to me because I had the opportunity to apply everything I have learned about distance education. I now have a greater understanding of the time and critical thought that goes into these courses. The readings and group discussion were very valuable in this course, especially when we created the course in Blackboard. We were allowed to create a course on a topic of interest and collaborate with other classmates to develop it. My group developed an ELA professional development course. In creating this course we thoughtfully planned the design, content, engagement of the learners and assessments in this course according to the readings and previous assignments. After creating the course, other classmates were "enrolled" into our course to evaluate it according to the rubrics we created earlier in the semester. Overall, our course was given lots of positive feedback.

Goal 2: To critically evaluate examples of distance education implementation in educational and business settings.

During this course, we were given the opportunity to collaborate with our classmates to create a rubric to evaluate two LMS sites. To successfully complete this assignment we had to refer back to previous readings for support. After the completion of our rubric, we were asked to evaluate two LMS sites using the rubric and discuss the strengths and weaknesses with our group members. My group decided to evaluate a distance education course on fairy tales that was offered at Notre Dame University and a course on Web 2.0 tools that was found on Moodle. After completing the evaluations we reflected on our thoughts and summarized the effectiveness of the courses' design, content, and learner support.
After completing this assignment, I was enlightened by the amount of thought and planning that goes into the development of an online course. This assignment also aided me in completing the course build assignment. Evaluating the LMS sites helped because viewing other online courses made me aware of the elements that make an effective course. With the knowledge I gained from these assignments, I am now capable to evaluate and develop an effective online course.

These assignments were important because it gave us the opportunity to reflect on what we learned and we were also given the opportunity to gain from the knowledge of others. Now that I have this knowledge, I can apply it to my professional life, whether it is with my colleagues during our PLC or mentoring high school students about life after high school.
